Retreat, Expedition or Held Experience support.

When you are ready, we are here.

Many people embark on retreats and other forms of personal journeys to deepen either a physical, mental, or spiritual practice. This involves a reconnection with themselves in a way that is not easy to do whilst in the middle of ‘normal’ modern life. The idea is that by doing so they will gain insight into what they may be doing wrong, or not quite right, find insight, and be supported to make integrative changes to improve their lives once the retreat, held experience or transformational expedition is over.

These journeys often require a surprising amount of active processing, both physically and psychologically to achieve the full benefit of the experience and expertise on offer.

The time post-event can be a challenging time for the attendee as the expectations of what could be achieved are met with the tough realities of life. Maintenance of the insights are often challenged once back in the real world. Integration is key.

It is likely that an individual who is embarking on a retreat, held experience, or transformational expedition may recognize that they are not optimally well. It is my experience, after 25 years of clinical practice that many, if not most, people are trying to navigate life with a suboptimal biochemical profile without being aware of this.

This suboptimal profile, or phenotype*, can manifest as anxiety, low energy, poor motivation and concentration, feelings of vulnerability, poor healing and detoxification, inflammation, digestive and microbiome challenges, amongst a vast range of vague, non-pathological symptoms and experiences. Therefore, embarking on a life-changing journey could further deplete the individual.

Feedback from individuals who have invested in a personal journey indicates that having the opportunity to address their phenotype prior to starting would have provided and supported a sense of readiness for embarking on the retreat or expedition. Furthermore, ongoing support following the retreat would have contributed positively to making sustained changes.

Having the opportunity to understand your basic biochemistry, rule in or out any nutritional deficiencies, anaemias and other metabolic challenges, and determine if you need some simple additions to your physiological and psychological biochemistry could radically change your ability to engage in the full experience and opportunity the retreat provides.

Further, this understanding and its follow-up support is likely to significantly reduce the chances of failure or disappointment in the weeks and months that follow post-experience, and increase the likelihood of optimal integration.

Using this model, individuals will be arriving at the retreat already rebuilding their foundations, regaining agency and manifesting a more robust and resilient self to engage fully with the wonder that is this life and all it has to offer. It is a challenge but it should also be fun.

*the phenotype of any organism represents the observable outcome of genetic information interacting with environmental influences. Understanding the individuals’ phenotypes is fundamental to supporting their unique path to sustainable health.

Whilst usually working with the providers of the retreat or expedition, and often for the corporate environment, we do work with individuals if instructed to do so.

We have many different packages available from the very simple to the fully immersive, onsite provision, offering varying levels of support at different price points, but always developed in conjunction with the provider.  Please contact us to set up a meeting with Hamish to discuss the details, availability and just to find out more.
